Edo APC campaign council raises alarm over plots by Edo govt to use thugs & cultists during election

As the countdown for Edo State Governorship election continues, the APC campaign council media wing has challenged the Edo state government to respect the sanctity of lives. This was on the heel of violent eruption yesterday during PDP leader’s visit at the palace of Oba before the official flag-off of Governor Godwin Obaseki for second term. Read full statement below👇

Earlier today, Hon. Patrick Obahiagbon, the Vice-Chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee of the APC National Campaign Council for the Edo Governorship election, addressed the press on the violent attacks meted out to our party members and supporters in Benin City by the Edo State Government and its hired thugs yesterday.

He also brought to public awareness the criminal and disgraceful plot by the Edo State Government to use thugs, cultists, and other criminal elements to harass, intimidate, and assault our party leaders and members on the eve of the Sept. 19 Governorship election.

These criminal acts of cowardice are all because the PDP and its candidate know that they have been rejected by our people. Left with no place to hide, they have resorted to violence and other egregious crimes which represent a direct affront on our hard-won democracy, the constitution, and the rule of law.

We have written to the IG of the Police, INEC, and other relevant stakeholders to prevail on the Governor to, at the very least, respect the sanctity of lives and the constitutionally guaranteed freedom of our people to make a political choice without intimidation, harassment, and criminal assaults.
